Education

Education

Details

“Education is considered as the most significant instrument in the socio-economic, cultural and political change in any society”. It provides knowledge and skills to equip the individuals to carry a better life. “To make the individuals eligible to occupy certain role positions, it is expected that they should possess specialized knowledge. The purpose of education is to get relevant knowledge and expertise for specific jobs which are essential for society”. In the case of weaker section, education is intended to realize their rights and also plays an important role in bringing the weaker section to the mainstream society and enables them to have advancement in their living conditions.

One’s educational level determines the level of employment and the level of employment decides his economic conditions and social status, which in turn decide his position in a society. By examining the history of Indian society, one can understand the spectacle view of the existence of many atrocities against the weaker sections. In fact, these dis-privileged sections were suffering from many socio-economic disabilities and multiple deprivations including the denial of education. For bringing them into mainstream society, the Government of India has taken many efforts since its independence. “The upliftment of backward communities is a multi-dimensional social issue.”

FACTORS FOR EDUCATION BACKWARDNESS

  • Familial Factors

The household factors include poverty, unemployment, educational level of parents, insufficient income, number of family members, disputes within family due to alcoholism and absence of reference group within the family, health condition of the parents etc.

  • Individual Factors

The poor academic performance is mainly due to the homely environment and unawareness of the importance of education. The previously said household factors also play an important role in their poor performance. Poor understanding of the learning process also tends to be the reason for the educational backwardness of the backward caste students. Due to the poor understanding they cannot perform well in their examination and hence they are dropped out. Lack of motivation is an important factor which leads the students from backward classes to the lower level in their education.

OUR SOLUTIONS

  • At PRAYAS TRUST, we look to improve learning outcomes in the public education system, by enabling ‘meaningful teacher-student interaction’. If a child is meaningfully and effectively engaged in the classroom by the teacher, they attend classes regularly, engage in learning, and in turn, achieve learning.
  • Free education is crucial because it guarantees an equal education level for every student in the country. This means that every student will have an equal opportunity to reach an equal level of education.
  • Children also often suffer from a lack of learning materials. If children do not have the appropriate books or other facilities to learn, chances are that their level of education will suffer. So, PRAYAS TRUST is also taking initiatives to come over this huddle too.
  • Many people might not even be aware of what a lack of education really means for their children. Parents may believe that a basic education taught at home is sufficient to succeed in life since they do not know better. PRAYAS trust is also spreading awareness to those parents and children too.
